MHI, one of Japan’s largest plant engineering companies, was facing a hiring challenge despite having top-tier technology and market share. The company struggled with low brand recognition among job seekers and lacked a clear focus in its recruitment messaging. As part of a hiring campaign, I was responsible for creating a recruitment concept and delivering a website, banners, event booth, and company brochure.

Through interviews with stakeholders, I uncovered the values MHI seeks in new hires, and the sense of pride employees feel about their work. I developed the recruitment concept “Assemble” reflecting how individuals with diverse skill sets come together to build large-scale solutions. Each graphic element symbolizes MHI’s values, the qualities of its people, and its contributions to the society. The visuals are dynamic yet aligned to a grid, expressing both structure and flexibility. I designed a visual system adaptable across various tools and touchpoints to maintain consistency throughout the hiring experience. The scalable design system helped unify recruitment materials, making the brand more recognizable across multiple channels. As a result, the number of applications increased 8x compared to the previous year.
